Hey, so i know this is probably a stupid question, but hey, i'm here to learn too so i'm gonna ask it anyway. So i accidentally broke a ceramic capacitor... i think i heated it too much. Oops. Anyway. I am going to go to radio shack or whatever tomorrow to find some replacements. My question is: should i look for anything more specific than ".1uf 100v" ceramic capacitors? Is there anything special about these capacitors that i should be aware of?

I found some that look similar with these specs:

Capacitance: 0.1uF
Voltage: 100V
Description: LD CAP-CER
Product: Radial
Tolerance +/-: 10%
Dielectric: X7R
Lead Spacing: 5.08mm(0.2") LS
Diameter or Width: 5.08mm W
Length or Height: 5.08mm H
RoHS
Min IR in Meg ohm: 100K
Temp Characteristic: +-15%
Oper Temp Range: -55C~+125C
Lead Diameter: .508mm(.02")
Lead Length: 1.00"
RoHS Compliant? YES

would these work as replacements?

Thanks for your help!

The ones I use are NPO C0G type. But X7R should work also.

Let me know if you can wait, I can send you a cap replacement.

Hey thanks, owel.

I have a few of the X7R type that i'll probably use. I don't mean to be a stickler or anything, but i'm curious why you use the NPO type. They seem to be significantly more expensive and harder to find. From what i understand, the main advantage to them over the X7R type is their lack of temperature drift and low succeptability to microphonics. Is this much of a problem with the power supply? I'm guessing not since you just mentioned that they would work fine... Thanks again!

I try to use the best components for the kit. They also have 1% tight tolerances besides the other features you mentioned.

X7R tolerances are typically 10%.

Both are suitable for bypass, coupling use.

>> harder to find

Not if you buy reels of 2500 pcs on each reel :)
