Hi everyone,
I just finished assembling 2 Sc-1mk2 kits and i'm really enjoying this project so far (very therapeutic actually). I'm starting on the VU meters and I have a few questions:

1) The instructions say to solder the longer LED lead on the left side. Is this looking from the component side or solder side? The LEDs came pre-bent with the longer lead on the right side(looking from the component side).

2)I want to orient the VUs vertically. What do the Vertical/Horizontal headers do exactly? Isn't flipping the board enough?

Thanks for any help,
fern

The LEDs are pre-bent, so mount the LEDs on the component side.

There should be a photo in the Assembly PDF guide on how it should look.

If mounted horizontally, you want your LED colors to be
GRN-GRN-GRN-YLW-RED
.. and of course, the jumper soldered on the HORZ holes.

If mounted vertically, yeah, I guess you can flip the VU meter board upside down. (Yeah, that's easier. )

or you can solder the jumper on the VERT holes and mount the LED colors as
RED-YLW-GRN-GRN-GRN

The original reason why I have the HORZ and VERT jumpers was because I originally planned the VU meter to mate with my Mini-IO PCB. I can't flip the board upside down because it will interfere with the switches and jacks.

Thanks owl for the quick reply.
So with the vertical jumpers you reverse the order of the LEDs
i.e. red in -13 yellow in -7 green 0, +10, +17?
thanks again,
fern

Yes, if you select VERT jumpers, ignore the silkscreen label on the PCB. Just insert the LEDs as RED-YLW-GRN-GRN-GRN (looking at the front)
