MX5 Mic Preamp
The MX5 sound is BIG, PUNCHY, and HUGE. It adds a deep, nice, WARM coloration to the sound. The low frequencies come out punchy and TIGHT, the high frequencies smooth and not harsh. The MX5 Mic Preamp features the same UK-made Carnhill Input Transformer to deliver big, punchy sound. A custom USA-made Output Transformer takes care of balancing the beefy outputs, and also adding it's own sonic signature.
MX5 Mic Preamp on Bass/Electric Guitars
All electric and acoustic guitars were recorded with an AKG C 414 EB running straight into the mk500. The bass was run through an old Kelsey direct box straight into the MX5-mk500.
I used a 1956 Les Paul, a 62 SG Les Paul, a Lowden acoustic, and old 30's Dobro and a 2010 (shootout) PRS McCarty guitar. The amplifiers were a PRS Super Dallas 50 and a PRS Original Sewell 100 through a 1973 marshall 4-12 and or a PRS 4-10 cabinet.
Everything was recorded mono just through the one MX5-mk500. I used a little compression and reverb from Digital Performer 7. (Of course the drums were sampled.)
Very impressive mic pre on all instruments used. Looking forward to other products in the future.
