 Post subject: X12 vs. SC1mk2 with Transformer

Just curious how these 2 preamps compare to each other sonically.

I understand that the X12 is more along the lines of an API type preamp, but whatn would the MK2 with transformer be compared as?

The SC-1 is smooth and crystal clear. Nice full sound, no flavor. Faithful. With an input transformer, there is some added beefiness, and smoother highs. But it's still clean and clear. One customer compared it to his P-1 preamp. I'm not surprised since both uses Cinemag transformers.

The X-12 adds aggressive coloration/character/flavor. The bottom end is boosted but somewhere in the mids, it's also given the right amount of boost to help the recording cut through a mix. It's perfect for vocals, drums, guitars.
