Getting close to launching the X12 Mic Preamp kits.... just need to tidy up a few details, double check things, and wait for a new batch of transformers.

X-12 Mic Preamp Kit - 1st packaged kit

It's a heavy box... input and output transformers and lots of parts! But no worries, all parts are individually labeled.

Price: $329
(includes input, output transformers, opamps, all parts, VU meter, Neutrik XLR jacks, heatsinks, switches, nuts and bolts, knobs, PCB, schematics, etc).

Great!!! I'm very excited!

How is it powered? Is the power kit additional?

Yes, you'll need the PSU-2448 power supply kit + the power transformer.

Did a minor change in the parts list, change the value of the loading resistor for a more fuller, bigger sound. YES! Sounds even better.

You guys should try it with a Cascade ribbon mic.

The venerable SM57 sounds delicious too. Oh yeah...

Oh man...I stay away from the website for just a LITTLE bit and see what you've gone and done!

And I've got a Blumlein pair of Cascade Fat Head II sitting here all lonesome...

*sigh*

Time to get out the credit card, I guess.

Will you have 1U rack kits available for these sometime soon? Please say yes...

Yes, that's the plan... 2 channels in a rack case.

Any thoughts on performance differences between the IC opamp and DOA versions (let's say Forssell 992, for instance)?

Ooo...also, if it can be asked, whose transformers are in there?

Scott,

I'm a big fan of the PDIP8 chip I'm using. It's the best of National Semiconductor. LME series.

Soundwise, it's hard to tell apart the sound of the PDIP and the DOA. Nobody will say "oh man you're using a PDIP8 instead of a DOA" ... not unless they took a peek at the insides.

And at 1/20th the price of a commercial DOA, it's a winner.

I'm using Cinemag ins and outs, but you're also free to use your own trafo... as long as it fits the layout/footprint.

Very cool.

Any estimated timeframe on rack cases? These things are calling my name...
