Hi there,

I meant to order the PSU + trafo kit but it seems that I just ordered the PSU, so now I am trying to source the trafo kit parts locally. For a small trafo to run a single preamp (from 230v power), is this a good option:

Digi-Key Part Number TE62064-ND

?

And, would you be so kind to post or PM me the digikey parts numbers for the other elements of the kit, so I can compare them with whatever is easily available over here?

Thanks very much!

OK, I've found one locally which looks up to spec, but I've noticed that the current is lower than another one which has been recommended here, is that an issue? Here is is:

Let me know if this would be a safe and useful substitute for the official kit. Thanks!

OK, one more option:

This one is just 15VA -- would that be an option for a single preamp box?

The TE62064-ND should work. (Just remember to scrape off the varnish before soldering the thin wires to the PSU PCB.) That's my only problem with this transformers... it uses very fine magnet wire for the flyout leads. The transformer I sell uses real stranded wire for the secondary flyout leads. Much stronger and not as fragile.

The links to Farnell don't work for me. I can't view it.

The SC-1 preamp doesn't consume a lot of power. Just 17mA per channel. (and 5mA of that is the LED!)

The 15VA will also work. What's important here is the voltage, don't use anything lower than 18VAC.

Thanks for the answer! I ended up going with this one, the one in the first column in the 115-115w 18-18v 15va version (I think I figured out what was wrong with the Farnell links and hope this works now):

The general spec sheet for the line is here:

http://www.block-trafo.de/fileadmin/productpdf/RK.pdf (English specs are typeset in gray). I'll let you know how it turns out.

That should work just fine.

The 62064 is the trafo that I have as well. Got it wired up, and you were right - it only delivers 46.8v phantom. I know that most mics will work with that, and way down below that, but for a decent FET condenser (like my large diaphragm) will that be enough? Or do they really need the full 48v phantom?

Thanks!

Mics don't need exactly 48V. PP is anywhere from 12V to 52V. Most mics will work even if you feed it less than 48V.

The trafo I sell will get you up to 48V.
