I am a new customer to fivefish and new to recording hardware, I have a few questions I have researched as much as I can about many pre amps and everything leads back to your products witch seem best suitable and outstanding from quality, price and customer satisfaction. anyways my question is I am going to be purchasing a preamp from you just not sure with what one I should go with some help would be greatly appreciated and can place my order with confidence

is their a big difference between the x-12mk500 and the x-72mk500 and if so what is it witch makes the x72 performs better I tried to look up the specs but they seem very similar and I am not too tech savy or should I go with the SC-1mk500.

all the audio clips sound outstanding and im sure I will be okay with any of these pre amps, has anyone used a shure sm7b in one how do they sound? any recommendations if you haven't? I am going to be recording vocals mostly mostly rap,r&b and a bit of acoustic

p.s I am also very interested in a rack, do you have any for the 72?

My current set up is
Roland mv 8800
Technics 1200
a&h zed 14 mixer
Mackie hr824
Shure Sm7b mic
macbook pro

Those preamps, SC-1, X-12 and X-72 are all very different from one another. It's not like one is better than the other. Personally, I can't pick a favorite. Each one has their own personality or characteristic in sound. This is due to either a) different topology and designs, b) different input and output transformers used.

The X-12 and X-72 are my "flavored preamps". They have lots of color due to the Input/Output trafos used. The SC-1 is more of the clean and clear type.

Yes. A lot of people have reported to me that the X-12 paired with the SM7B is killer. There's also a vocal clip on the Audio Samples page recorded with the X12/SM7.

See also the User Reviews where users report their X-12 used with their SM7. Lots of good feedback from users.

Thank you.

Just an FYI, I have (5) available X-12mk500 for sale as of today. I need to re-order more transformers, but that could take a couple of weeks.

No, we do not. But you can use an API lunchbox rack (6 slot or 11-slot), you can also get compatible lunchbox racks from other manufacturers.

The one I'm using is from BigRackAudio.com
