i was wondering if you would be able to offer pre drilled/cut cases in the future? maybe even with surface mounted XLR's?

the reason i ask this is that measuring the exact places to cut and drill the case etc has been a bit of a pain for me, personally, and was wondering if anyone else had had similar thoughts?

after testing the sc1 in a session today, im definitely wanting more, ESPECIALLY with transformers and a pad, but would think twice again because of issues with the case ive had

yeah, case work is actually more time consuming than the soldering in many cases....

I don't know what you got, but a cheap drill press might help your situation.

Great that you like the SC1 during your session today!

As for the case, this is something I'd like to do... it's just that money/budget/$$$ is just preventing me from doing it at this early in the game.

Take note, the launch of the SC1 is not even a month old! Maybe when I paid down the CC debt I incurred during the R&D and launch of the SC1, I'll be able to devote some funds to cases. I'd also wanting to use some funds for the IO-Module.

Now, all you really need to do the case is a drill pess as Luke said.

These are the only 4 drill bit sizes you need.

And maybe a 1/2" bit and a step drill so you can make a 15/16" hole for the XLR.

If you don't have a drill press, I admit it will be difficult to produce a case.

I drilled this case in less than an hour one night.

With most of the time taken up by laying out the dimensions and measuring center lines.

I'm having some SC-1 hole templates prototyped here... using CNC-laser cutting on an aluminum front panel.

If my hole dimensions are correct, we're one step closer to having our own front panels made.

if they are right, count me in for one, it will fit better than my current one!

maybe a flatpack, pre-drilled modular design, similar to seventh circle audio? allowing for users to add parts, add mods etc which would conform to the case? build a neat little brand.

i understand the OH would be more, but you could save on labour and id certainly pay for it

I have a 1u front panel prototype being manufactured right now.... will fit 4 channels of SC-1.

I'll receive it probably during the first week of August. Then we'll see if it fits perfectly with the preamps.

PS: This is not the complete case, just the front panel. One step at a time...

What did you use to cut the hole for the A/C power connector?

I only have the front panel being made. No back panel yet.

Or are you talking about my DIY case? If so, I use a drill press and a jigsaw cutter... then filing it to make it smooth.

To all you guys, good news.

I'm hiring the services of a SolidWorks designer to create engineering drawings for the rack case.

This right off the bat would cost me more than a thou$and dollar$ in design fees.

Next step will be to find a factory to make a prototype of the case (more $$), then next step will be to find a factory that will manufacture the cases (more $$$$).

The first case product will be 1u height with space for 4 preamp channels.

If this case increase sales of the kits (I hope!), the next case that will be offered will be 2u height with 8 preamp channels.

And possibly... maybe... 1u height with 2 channels. (we'll see if we get this far.)

Awesome!! Thats a lot of money though. :( You should find a college kid to do the drawings! ;)

Here's how I look at it... I don't know squat using SolidWorks. I've worked with AutoCAD when I was working in an engineering firm, but we mostly do engineering plans in 2D.

This guy seems top notch and he got referred to me by an established shop.

While expensive, I believe he'll produce files that I can give to any manufacturing facility out there and they'll be able to build what I want.

His design fee will be "small" compared to the actual cost to manufacture cases... and I'd rather have it done right rather than do it myself and then cost thousands in mistakes during final manufacturing :) I don't have that luxury. I can eat up a $70 mistake in PCB prototyping, but not several thousand dollars of mistake in case manufacturing.

i cannot believe you're doing this owel, absolutely incredible. real dedication to the customer base. i think its time to let my secret weapon out and spread the word

the case, will it be totally drilled, to include the power supply etc, and transformers?

im having visions of an sc1234+ with 4 channels of transformer colouring punchy heaven. drum kit and guitar land!

So does this mean that the measurements on the template are truly accurate? I think you said in another thread that you were pretty sure but not positive until the CNC prototypes came back.
