hey, couldn't you just have a prefabbed blank back and make a panel for the back? then you could just have a big big rectangle hole and just screw a back on to the chassis? perhaps less expensive... who knows though...
I believe Owel is now doing the CNC milling himself. If I remember correctly, he's also working on a method to have customizable rack units like you're referring to.
I think that would definitely boost sales. For some people, the worry of doing the drilling correctly is a factor that might hold them back from getting the kit. And they don't necessarily want or can afford four channels.
On the same note, if they just want one or two channels, they could go with the to-be-released SC-1 Solo or TS-2 pre's.
That's what's great about Fivefish and the direction Owel is taking. There are so many options and so many great products. He's defintely making the smartest and most fair decisions. Fivefish is without question, the best DIY Pro Audio Kit company out there.
Take for example, the kits by SCA. Don't get me wrong, they have some great pre's. But they aren't as versatile. You can't choose whether to have and IO Module [with or without Transformers] and/or a VU meter. And in terms of the case, SCA basically won't talk to you about any other chassis solutions except for their own. If you want just one channel, they'll recommend you buy their 8-ch case. I couldn't get hole diagrams from them for building my own case [and being that the pre I wanted was also 3 times the price, I didn't end up buying it]. Owel, on the other hand, provides the diagrams and even gives you tons of advice as to how to best work on them. Owel rocks and Fivefish is the best!
