Hello! I'm getting ready to make my foray into preamps outside internal mixer pres. I've begun fixing tube amps as a hobby/side-job-for-friends and found that soldering is actually fun. I came upon fivefishstudios.com off googling "build your own preamp" and I am really intrigued by the circuits. I'm planning to get the 2 SC1-MK3 deal with the PSU and PT first and then order the X-12 duo. The timing is dependent on how Christmas shopping goes, though.

My real question is, are there measurements or templates available for drilling the chassis I come up with for these units? Also, would a four-in-one introduce more possibility of interference/other random electrical issues over having two separate rack units?

Generally, I prefer to conserve space if possible, but I definitely want good function! If I can get them all into a 1U rack with good function, that would be pretty neat. If that's the case, would one PT cover the power needs of the unit? I am a little concerned about being able to drill for those LEDs, but I can always cut a new case if I screw it up, I suppose.

Thanks for making it so affordable to get quality audio equipment!

Here's the front panel measurements for the SC-1mk3

There are no interference problems. My mk2 fits (4) in a case.
But the mk3 has a wider PCB and so only 2 channels can fit in a case.

Yes. The preamp is very "Green" in power consumption... You can power 8 channels with a small 30VA power transformer.

Ok, thanks for the info. If I go with a 2u chassi, the mk3 seems like it will fit vertically (according to the measurements?). If the x-1 is similarly sized, I can fit 6 units comfortably.

If you go with a 3u, it will fit vertically. (i.e. same height dimension as an API lunchbox).
