I've been playing with Arduino (Atmel microprocessor)... and I'm thinking we can use this to control switching of the relays, pads, phase, etc... maybe even a simple VU/signal metering.

Wait... that will be just like an RNP.

Bump it up. We can add an LCD display to show status, etc...

just thinking out aloud.

I thought there were noise issues with a microprocessor next to analog electronics...but hey, we don't have to build it! How complex a build would this be for us apprentice wiremen?

I'd vote for level leds, phase, pads and transformer switching for the Xmodule, but then I've got plenty of digital junk to play with elsewhere.

Down the line I'd hope for EQ and compressors...you could even build a desk out of this little lot!

Nothing concrete yet... if noise becomes an issue, I'll either find a way to move the logic board far away, put it on a separate PCB or something. What I'm envisioning in my head is just control lines from the microprocessor board connecting to the IO-Module... and again, the uProcessor may be optional if somebody just wants to hard-wired the control lines for the pads/ phase, etc.

Sounds like a neat idea. How do you control the phase and what not?

It will just be low level logic voltages controlling relays.. so you won't have signal-carrying wires running from the back panel all the way to the front panel, then back again... Only the low level logic voltages will go to switches to the front panel. The signal lines will be switched via relays.
