Besides the troubleshooting tips listed in the PDF document, here are a few more I discovered.

Sympton: No gain, very minimal gain... But if you continue turning the gain selector switch, suddenly the gain is very loud.

Possible Solutions:
1. Replace the 1510 chip. See if that fixed the problem. If symptoms didn't change, go to #2.

2. Remove IC2 and remove Jumper JP1. This disables the DC servo and puts the preamp in AC coupling mode. See if you get proper operation.

If the preamp works if using AC coupling, then check for cold solder around IC2 and the capacitors around it.

Especially C9. Check if C9 is properly soldered (i.e. not cold solder)
