I have an SC-2 that's almost ready to rock - I'm upto the -preflight check and as I expected I get less than 18v+ and 18v- because I am connecting her up to 18v+- as per my other SC-1 (original) which is still sitting in the rack. I get a voltage reading of about nearly 16.7-17vdc which I guess is pretty good because I would have expected the voltage regulator to chew off some more voltage.

I've checked the leads in this testing lashup and I know that 18+- is going in (which is a good thing!). Phantom light also goes on. Fits in faceplate. No fire or smoke or anything else = Wonderful!

I'm now pondering a few things:

1) - What's the best and or easiest way to mix SC-1 and SC-1Mk2's in the same case? I don't want to damage the two originals I have.

2) - I'm thinking of making a little pluggable board for my SC-1's. All the power leads will plug into some sockets sitting on one board in a daisy chain arrangement. Is this a good idea?

1. If you have the original SC-1s, just set your PSU to 18Volts and adjust the trimmers on the mk2 to the maximum possible.

It's not a big deal. (In fact, the 500 format SC-1 runs at +/-16Volts since that is what the API rack only offers.)

2. Yes, that's fine.

I was a bit worried I might be underpowering the opamps and limiting headroom if I were to run things at a lower voltage (like tends to happen with guitar pedal circuits). Makes moving forward easier given what you have said. I am rather eager to get this one plugged up and give it a go

BTW - Was there a particular reason for going for the onboard regulators?

I'm surprised the API rack runs at 16v, that's a rather odd voltage.......

Some people ask for it. Some people also don't buy my PSU and instead build their own... so a local regulator helps ensure the preamp gets clean power too.
